Translation Memory

What is Translation Memory?

Translation Memory (TM) is a feature that stores previously translated segments and suggests them when you encounter similar or identical text. This helps maintain consistency across your documents and speeds up the translation process.

How It Works

When you translate text in Antinium:

1. Antinium checks your translation memory for similar segments
2. If a match is found, it suggests the stored translation
3. You can accept, modify, or reject the suggestion
4. Your final translation is saved to the memory for future use

Enabling Translation Memory

For a Document

1. Open your document
2. Click the "Settings" icon in the toolbar
3. Toggle "Translation Memory" to ON
4. Choose whether to use workspace memory or document-specific memory

For a Workspace

1. Go to Settings → Workspace Defaults
2. Enable "Translation Memory" for all new documents
3. This setting applies to all documents in the workspace

Viewing Memory

You can view all stored translations in your memory:

1. Go to Settings → Translation Memory
2. Browse all stored segments
3. Search for specific terms or phrases
4. Filter by language pair

Editing Entries

You can edit or delete translation memory entries:

• Click on any entry to edit it
• Update the source or target text
• Delete entries that are no longer accurate
• Export your memory for backup

Best Practices

• Review suggestions: Always review TM suggestions, especially fuzzy matches
• Maintain quality: Only accept high-quality translations into memory
• Update regularly: Remove outdated or incorrect entries
• Use for consistency: TM is especially useful for technical documentation and branded content
• Workspace sharing: Share TM across team members for consistent terminology

When to Use Translation Memory

Recommended For:

• Technical documentation with repeated terminology
• Product documentation with consistent features
• Branded content with specific messaging
• Legal documents with standard clauses
• Updates to existing documents

Consider Disabling For:

• Creative writing or marketing copy
• One-time documents with unique content
• When you want fresh translations every time

Exporting and Importing

You can export your translation memory for backup or sharing:

1. Go to Settings → Translation Memory
2. Click "Export"
3. Choose format: TMX (Translation Memory eXchange) or CSV
4. Download the file

To import a translation memory file:

1. Go to Settings → Translation Memory
2. Click "Import"
3. Select your TMX or CSV file
4. Choose whether to merge or replace existing entries
5. Click "Import"
